About Massage Therapy
Swedish Massage, the most common form of massage therapy, uses light brushing strokes and gentle kneading to work specifically on the superficial layers of the skin and muscles. It promotes relaxation, restored flexibility, improved circulation, and general relief from body tension. It also helps to eliminate waste products in the tissues. If you’re looking for stress relief or peaceful relaxation, a Swedish Massage may be just the right choice for you.
Therapeutic Massage is one of the most popular massage treatments available. This massage combines the techniques of both Swedish and Deep Tissue massage for a session that uses more moderate pressure. Chronic muscle tension can be relieved by this type of massage through applying slow steady pressure, and then a more slightly more intense and direct approach to release knots and tight muscles. The desired results of a Therapeutic Massage are reduced muscle tension, reduction in nerve pain, increased flexibility in the joints and muscles, and often an increase in energy level due to the restoration of muscle tone and circulation, as well as the flushing out of metabolic wastes in the tissues.
Deep Tissue Massage Therapy employs more specific types of direct pressure on deeper muscle layers, adhesions, trigger points and constricted fascial tissues. Adhesions are caused by scar tissue built up in the muscles over time. Trigger points are adhesions or knots that can create referred pain to other areas of the body. Fascia is the thin fibrous layer of tissue covering the muscles throughout the body. When the fascial tissue becomes increasingly more rigid it begins to restrict movement and circulation of blood and fluid within the tissues. The effectiveness of Deep Tissue work is achieved through techniques of friction, deep stroking, applying and holding direct pressure with the use of fingers, knuckles, palms, elbows and forearms. The result is restored muscle tonicity, lengthening and balancing tissues, improved posture, and restoring proper muscular/structural alignment. Often results can be felt after just one session, however any long term chronic condition may need to be addressed for several weeks before permanent effects can be achieved.
Sports Massage is a specialized massage for athletes, runners, weightlifters and those who workout on a regular basis. It involves stretching and range of motion to restore tonicity and flexibility in the muscles, and flush out excess lactic acid to prevent soreness. If you are preparing for an event, the focus is on stimulating the muscles and increasing oxygen flow for better performance. So, whether you are looking for pre- event, post- event, or restoring muscle tone and body balance following a strenuous workout, a Sports Massage is the right choice for you.
